Protecting your Clients from Predatory Liens (Reno)
(Part of the Richard A. Harris Series of Continuing Legal Education)

In the last legislative session (2017), NJA worked extensively on rectifying problems within the hospital lien statute. Our efforts were largely successful, but the new law is not without complications.

Protecting your client from unjustified collection efforts that can eat up all of your client's recovery is paramount. In this seminar, you will learn how to protect your client from unwarranted collection efforts, how to deal with difficult hospitals, ethical considerations in dealing with health care providers, and billing and lien practices including:

  • When a lien can be used against your client
  • The consumer protections against hospital liens
  • Relief for Medicare and Medicaid patients
  • Latest hospital charge practices
  • Lien negotiation strategies
