Insurance "Bad Faith" Means Many Things. Learn What It Is & Importantly, What It Is Not  (Las Vegas)

Part of the Richard A. Harris Series of Continuing Legal Education

Most western-states’, and certainly Nevada’s laws impose a duty on insurance companies to act in good faith and fair dealing with the persons and entities the companies insure.  Often referred to as the "implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing" this duty is imposed by operation of law in every insurance contract. However, not all insurance companies comply with this standard.

In this seminar you will learn:

  • What is insurance bad faith?
  • How do we get there in Nevada?
  • Cases outlining insurance bad-faith and Nevada's claims handling statute NRS 686A.310
  • First party (good) vs. Third-Party claims (do they even exist?)
  • Bad Faith "set up" (there's really no such thing)
  • When is a bad faith claim appropriate (and when is it inappropriate)?
  • Practice tips
